The juicer is the ideal piece of equipment for anyone who likes to enjoy freshly squeezed orange juice ! Much less imposing than a juice extractor, the results are nevertheless just as high: taste and nutritional value are preserved!
But between the manual device and the electric one, which one to favor? And which options are important? Here is everything you need to know How to Choose a Juicer!
How to Choose a Juicer: Manual or electric?
Before even choosing a juicer, there are actually two options available to the buyer: turn to a manual juicer or opt for an electric juicer . Beyond the technical characteristics, it is therefore important to first determine what type of machine you will prefer.
Especially since the budget you want to devote to this purchase will not be as decisive as with other devices: indeed, contrary to what one might think, it is now possible to find for less than 30 $ good manual juicers but also good electric juicers!
The difference between these two types of juicer is of course the presence or absence of a motor that will help to turn the juice extraction cone. In an electric juicer, this cone generally turns on its own, often in both directions, and when you put the fruit on it, you no longer have to provide the slightest pressure so that the citrus fruit is completely emptied of its juice.
With a manual juicer, the effort required is obviously more substantial, although there are still more sophisticated machines that use a lever or a crank to put pressure on the fruit, and which therefore requires less effort from the user. These models are certainly more expensive to buy, but since they do not contain any electronic components, they are thereforeable to last longer !
Fruits and quantity
Choose juicer fruit quantityTo choose the right juicer, it is also important to know in advance what type of fruit you mainly intend to use for making juices. A citrus press should not be confused with a juice extractor or a centrifuge : the citrus press only has a cone on which a round half-fruit is placed, hence its name since it is particularly suitable for oranges , lemons , grapefruits, etc.
While it is therefore mainly satisfied with these fruits, some models of juicer with manual and mechanical press have a base on which it may be possible to place other small fruits to be squeezed, such as grapes, strawberries, etc. or even pieces of kiwi. But most of the time, it is only possible to make orange juice, lemon juice, etc.
The other element to take into account regarding its fruits is the amount of juice that you want to obtain. Some juicers have a drip tray , but many are designed with a spout, to serve juice directly into the glass.
In the event of large quantities of fruit to be transformed into a drink, or when you want to prepare juices for a whole family, it may therefore be advantageous to favor a device with a drip tray. It is more practical, and it then allows to better distribute the quantity of juice obtained!
The different technical characteristics
Choose citrus press optionsFinally, choosing the right juicer also requires a review of all the technical features and options that the device offers. And whether it is to facilitate the use or to make it more pleasant, they are generally quite numerous!
The direction of rotation:
On the electric juicer, it is possible that the cone turns in both directions, which then makes it possible to extract and collect even more juice, and without even needing to tire!
The pulp separator:
Usually, thanks to filters, the juicer may be able to pass the pulp with the juice or to retain it for disposal afterwards. You can then taste your orange juice as you prefer!
The anti-drip spout:
On models that do not have a drip tray, the anti-drip spout is very practical since, as it folds upwards after having poured the juice, it avoids dripping and therefore leaving traces on the work surface!
The additional cone:
Some citrus juicers can offer 2 types of cones, to adapt even better to all citrus fruits. The second cone provided is usually sharper and deeper for larger fruits.
The protective cover:
With the pulp which settles, cleaning the juicer is always restrictive! But when the device is supplied with a protective cover, it is protected from dust and we can then allow ourselves to wash it only every 2 or 3 days!
Even if it does not seem essential, some manual juicers are high-rise devices which therefore require good stability. With non-slip feet, you are sure to be able to use it with confidence!
